recovering Republican [Dec. 11th, 2005|12:21 pm]

Hi, I have been surfing for a while and decided to finally post. I am a "recovering Republican" - I didn't leave the party, the party left me. I see the party, and this current administration in particular, as having abandoned basic Christian principles and just doing whatever they want, justifying it all by 9-11 fears. I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing, and my feelings about it all, when 9-11 happened (some insinuate that we have forgotten that!) But that event, horrendous as it was, did not change my faith,my beliefs about what is right and wrong, nor my basic principles. I still believe that God calls us to be lights in the world, showing we follow him by being different - not answering
hurt by causing more hurt, not justifying our ends by our means, etc. I believe He still calls us to "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". God has no place for hate, or for guilt trips, or for singling out a particular group of people for harsh treatment based on the actions of a few members (e.g. -Muslims)...
I could go on and on, but there is more time for that later. I just want to end with this. - Don't give in to the emotional blackmail that this administration is trying to pull in regards to 9-11 and terrorism. It is okay to be against the war in Iraq, and at the same time support the troops by calling (and praying) for their soon safe return from that place.
Thanks :)

i'm curious - does that mean you would consider yourself a democrat now, or simply someone whose party has abandoned them? i live in a country with a multiparty system so i'm always curious as to how americans navigate disappointment with 'their' party.

Don't think that becoming a Democrat is the only or best option now, for they're just as guilty as Republicans are. I'd encourage looking for and supporting the most Christ-like party you can find or create.
